Panagiotis (Takis) ALEVANTIS

Physicist, columnist at regional newspaper Haniotika Nea, former official at the European Commission

  • Physics Diploma, University of Patras (1977).
  • Translator at the Greek Army General Staff (1977-1979).
  • Assistant editor for Science & Technology, encyclopaedia  ΠΑΠΥΡΟΣ-LAROUSSE-BRITANNICA (1979-1984).
  • Science & technology editor, weekly magazine ΕΠΙΚΑΙΡΑ (1980-1983) and monthly magazine 4ΤΡΟΧΟΙ (1981-1984).
  • Official at the European Commission (1984-2016) where he:
    • introduced Greek and extended multilingualism in computer systems;
    • organised information and communication in the Competition Directorate General; and
    • designed, among other things, the Common Emergency Communication and Information System (CECIS), the network linking Civil Protection situation rooms of EU Member States.
As a member of the European Emergency Number Association (www.eena.org) he supports the promotion of 112, the single European emergency call number.
